FUTURE OF CARNIVAL- BLACK OBSIDIAN (BOSS) SOUNDSYSTEM

The Future of Carnival with Faggamuffin Bloc Party & Black Obsidian Soundsystem

Faggamuffin Bloc Party celebrates Black Pride & the visibility of LGBTQI+ People of Colour of African & Caribbean heritage as part of carnival, with its main mission to increase visibility of QTIPOC pride at carnival.

Black Obsidian Sound System was established in the summer of 2018 with the intention of bringing together a community of queer, trans and non binary black and people of colour involved in art, sound and radical activism. Following in the legacies of sound system culture we wanted to learn, build and sustain a resource for our collective struggles. The system, based in London, is available to use or rent by community groups and others with the purpose of amplifying and connecting us.

Black Obsidian Sound System (B.O.S.S.) events are open to everyone BUT the comfort and safety of black and of colour women, femmes, queers and trans folk is our priority. As always - No racism, sexism, ableism, ageism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia or hatefulness. We aim to make accessibility a priority. If any of the above is compromised during an event, please reach out to one of the collective members (in B.O.S.S t-shirts).

ABOUT PEDRO YOUTH CLUB

Pedro Youth Club was established in 1929 by Baroness Harwood and was revived in the 1960s with the support of Dame Elizabeth Taylor, who served as a patron up until her death in March 2011. Today the Pedro Club remains as one of the oldest functioning youth clubs within the UK. James Cook a local resident, a former British Super-Middleweight Champion, was alerted to the plight of the Pedro Club and set about organising a rescue programme, he formed a new management committee, and due to their arduous efforts the club reopened in 2003. In June 2007 James Cook was awarded an MBE within the Queen’s Honours List for Services to the Youth Justice in Hackney. Since 2020, the club initiated the Knock Out Knife Crime (KOKC) endeavour which uses boxing to promote positive lifestyle changes leading to brighter futures for youths across the UK-programmes use the sport and science of boxing to empower, inspire, motivate, support, mentor, embolden and elevate the next generation.
