Tina Pasotra is an artist and filmmaker. Interdisciplinary at its core, Pasotra’s work bridges moving image, theatre, sound, dance, installation and architecture, while always centering practices of collaboration, care and equity. Through her work, Pasotra questions what constitutes a ‘grounded’ body and the ways that it expresses, carries and transforms our lived experience. These concerns are often explored through movement-based projects that draw attention to the complex relationships of our bodies to domestic and natural environments, family, and the nexus of past, present and future modalities of time.
Pasotra directed and co-wrote her debut narrative short film, ‘I Choose’ (2020), nominated for Best Short Film BAFTA Cymru 2021 and currently screening on BBC iPlayer. Her first commissioned piece ‘But Where Are You From?’ (2017) for C4/Random Acts in association with Big Dance Shorts India was featured at the Science Museum’s ‘Illuminating India’ event and has screened at festivals across the UK and India. In 2019, Pasotra participated in ‘Widening the Lens’ through Encounters Film Festival and BFI Network Weekender and completed a trainee director scheme at Bad Wolf in 2020, shadowing BAFTA winning director Farren Blackburn for the Sky One series, ‘A Discovery of Witches’. Since 2014, Pasotra has worked on projects with and received research and development support from National Theatre Wales. She was emerging director for their live immersive theatre gig ‘The Insatiable, Inflatable Candylion’ (2015-16) and assisted Artistic Director Kully Thiari on ‘Sisters’ (2018), an all-female work-in-progress by leading British-Asian and Indian artists. Pasotra’s work and research has received additional support from Arts Council Wales, British Council, Wales Arts International, Ffilm Cymru Wales, BFI Network, BBC Wales and C4, and she is a member of BFI Network x BAFTA Crew.
In 2019, Pasotra began a dialogue with National Botanical Garden of Wales after visiting as part of her collaborative project ‘Bloom’ and participated in a residency there in 2020. Pasotra is currently developing a forthcoming site-specific project with NBGW. Pasotra is currently being mentored by BAFTA Award winning writer Charlie Covell (The End of The F***ing World) through Dancing Ledge/ITV New Talent Scheme.
