Selam! I’m Medhaneet Siddist Sunny SOON. I am proud to be accepted for the moon project because music is an essential part of my existence. I am an Afro-Caribbean non binary 24 year old residing on turtle island on indigenous Tongva land. I became fond of music at a young age, observing my grandfather being a Congo drummer and jazz enthusiast, my mother in reggae music, and my father’s experiences as an Ethiopian musician and singer. I went to performing art schools that gave me an opportunity to learn arts in different ways. I feel inspired by the natural world and the injustices I endure to release tension and connect to life's experiences in new ways. Storytelling is a way I get to completely express myself within my boundaries and I find it a liberating tool for music.
